Royals secure first win in IPL 2025
Shimron Hetmyer scored only 19 runs from 16 balls, which helped his Rajasthan Royals side secure their first win in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) against the Chennai Super Kings. The Royals won by 6 runs.
Thanks to Nitish Rana’s magnificent 81 from 36 balls, the Royals reached a respectable total of 182 for nine from their allotted 20 overs after having to bat first.
They lost opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over for 4, then Rana joined Sanju Samson at the crease, and they both added 82 runs for the second wicket.
Samson fell shortly after for 20, but Rana continued scoring, hitting 10 fours and five sixes in his heroic knock. Captain Riyan Parag supported with a valuable 37 from 28 balls, including two 4s and two 6s.
Coming in at number seven, Hetmyer managed to hit a 4 and 6 in his knock and was the last wicket to fall in the final over.
England pacer Jofra Archer made sure CSK had a bad start, as he removed opener Rachin Ravindra for a duck without a run on the scoreboard.
Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga then came in to leave the CSK batters in bits and pieces. After picking up a wicket with his first ball, Hasaranga had four wickets for 35 runs to leave the run chase in deep trouble.
CSK needed 39 runs off the last two overs, but in the end, it proved too much for them to score. They could only get to 176 for 6 despite captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s courageous 63 from 44 balls and Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 32 from 22 balls.
