Sprint star Fraser-Pryce bids farewell to Jamaican National Stadium
Sprint icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce announced that she will retire after the 2025 season, making her final appearance at the Jamaica National Championships in Kingston’s National Stadium.
The five-time World 100m champion announced during a Nike-hosted cocktail reception recently at the AC Hotel in Jamaica, expressing her anticipation for the upcoming event.
Fraser-Pryce sees her last appearance at the National Stadium as an exciting moment and states, “In the next two days, it will be my final time gracing the National Stadium. Honestly, it’s one of those moments I’m looking forward to because I have absolutely nothing to lose and all to gain.”
The event celebrated her legendary career and lasting impact on track and field. It highlighted numerous achievements, such as winning three Olympic gold medals and being a multiple-time Jamaica Sportswoman of the Year.
Luminaries such as Prime Minister Andrew Holness, long-time sponsor GraceKennedy CEO Frank James, Nike executives, MVP Track Club President Bruce James, and her family, husband Jason Pryce, and son Zyon were all present at the event.
Fraser-Pryce’s journey began with a global medal at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka as part of Jamaica’s 4×100m relay team. It progressed, securing three Olympic gold medals, including historic back-to-back 100m titles in 2008 and 2012, a World Indoor 60m crown, five World Championship 100m golds, and 10 World Championship medals overall.
She remains the third fastest woman in history and a multiple-time Jamaica Sportswoman of the Year.
Fraser-Pryce emphasized her Jamaican roots and clarified that the nation has always fueled her passion and desire to represent the black, green, and gold internationally.
Expressing gratitude for the nation’s unwavering support throughout her career, Pryce said, “I’ve always said that I’m the daughter of the soil. I’m a proud Jamaican because you have shown me love in the ups and downs, and it is you who have helped nurture me and give me that spirit of pride and unwavering support.”
