APC Community Services and Trinbago Progressive Association celebrate milestones, raise funds for medical mission
Twelve distinguished individuals on April 14, were recognized for their stellar services during a reception that celebrated the 28th Anniversary of the Action Performance Commitment (APC) Community Services, and the 35th Anniversary of Trinbago Progressive Association, (TPA) held at the exquisite El Carib County Club in Brooklyn.
They are: Tania Kinsella, first deputy commissioner NYPD; Pastor Gilford Monrose, director of Faith Based Clergy Initiatives – NYC Mayor’s Office; Dr. Kern Tobias, president of The Caribbean Union; Dr. Jean Leon, retired executive director HHC Kings County Hospital; Ms. Carol Trim-Bagot, CEO Trim’s Management Services; Margaret Babb, health and community advocate; Dr. Gregory Calliste, CEO NYC Health+ Hospitals, Woodhull; Minister Cora Williamson, retired deputy assistant warden NYC Department of Corrections; Dr. Joanne Katz, associate professor/chair Physical Therapy Program SUNY Downstate; Dr. Stephen Wells, podiatrist, Brookdale Hospital; Dr. Karl LatorTue, president Haitian Medical Association/Medical Director Hotel Trade Council Queens Health Center and Dale S. Miller, manager, T& T Express Shipping.
The gala was held to raise funds for the upcoming APC/TPA Medical Mission to Trinidad and Tobago from May 13-27, 2024.
During this upcoming Mission Trip, a team of more than 40 health professionals, doctors, dentists, nurses, mental health professionals, and health educators will provide free services at Bon Accord Community Center, Fairfield Complex, Roxborough Health Center, Community Hospital, University of the Southern Caribbean, Marabella, and to special needs children in Trinidad.
Two symposiums and health exposition will be held at the Goodwood Secondary School and University of the Southern Caribbean, respectively.
More than 300 guests attended the event, including Consul General of Trinidad and Tobago, J. Andre Laveau, who gave welcome remarks. He also delivered a congratulatory letter from Consul General of Guyana to New York, Michael E Brotherson, read by Claire Patterson Monah.
President of the Caribbean Union, Dr. Kern Tobias was the keynote speaker. He focused on the blessing and the opportunity to bless others through a life of service.
President APC Community Services, Dr. Janice Emanuel-McLean, President of Trinbago Progressive Association, Stephen Isaac and CEO Community Hospital, Trinidad, Dr. Stephen Carryl presented reports and highlights of their organizations.
The evening was one of elegance highlighting the culture of Trinidad and Tobago with a steelpan performance by Ricardo Jerome, and Guyanese patriotic song by Anthony Alleyne.
The entertainment was further enhanced by Violinist Kareem Headley of Joe’s Academy and Carnegie Hall Oprah singer Veronica Kaninsha. Attendees were also treated to a fashion show narrated by Jean Pickering, Models Alison Jones and Sheneice Paul wore outfits designed by Gail Lynch-Akinis & Gillani Couture, 840 Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn.
