Atelier Artist launches inclusive residency for Brooklyn creatives
Atelier Artist is a co-sharing space and creative residency located in Central Brooklyn. The founders are opening their doors, offering the marginalized creatives an opportunity to achieve success in New York City’s increasingly exclusive art scene.
The residency is open to creatives across Brooklyn who are talented in visual arts, performance, media, design, writing, and sound. Priority will be given to applicants from historically marginalized backgrounds seeking sustainable and intentional spaces to grow their craft.
The initiative is led by Jonathan Pierre Lafleur, co-founder, Franck Henry Godefroy, and creative director and lead curator, MC Alexander Ciceron. Their vision is to build “a hybrid creative hub” that functions as a workspace and a home for cultural connection and artistic empowerment.
In an interview with Caribbean Life Newspaper, Lafleur, executive director stated that this space is rooted in cultural justice and collective empowerment. It is a movement to mobilize artists of color, queer creatives, immigrants, and those historically pushed to the margins of the sideline.”

The programming is designed for the community, emphasizing healing, storytelling, and cultural exchange. The space will offer live studio sessions, creative mixers, artist talks, and open mic nights. It provides a rare alternative that is inclusive, visible, and fosters long-term creative growth.
Summer and fall residency applications are open, with the pilot program running from June through October 2025. Selected artists will gain 24/7 access to shared and semi-private workspaces known as the “Altis Hubs,” as well as unrestricted use of gallery space, discounted event rentals, and a full slate of public events. It is launching with an open call for its initial residency program. The initiative invites emerging artists, especially those who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and immigrants, to apply. Applicants will have access to affordable studios, gallery space, and year-round community programming.
“If you’re dreaming big but feeling boxed out, this space is for you,” said Godefroy, a Haitian-born artist.
“Atelier Artist is rooted in cultural equity and collaboration. It’s not just a studio — it’s a community space where artists can grow, exhibit, and thrive together,” said Creative Director Alexander
