Dancehall singer Masicka drops ‘Keys’
Dancehall powerhouse Masicka has set the tone for his next musical chapter by releasing “Keys,” the first official single from his forthcoming, highly anticipated studio album via Def Jam Recordings.
Produced by Westen Weiss, the track delivers “a fusion of smooth melodies, lyrical precision, and emotional depth that fans have come to expect from the Generation of Kings hitmaker,” according to Ronnie Tomlinson, the Jamaican-born, Brooklyn-based entertainment publicist.
“Baby, your body speaks to me, free to me, she got the keys to my heart,” Masicka croons over a hypnotic rhythm, blending sultry vocals with his signature flow.
Tomlinson, CEO of the New York-based Destine Media, said “Keys” explores themes of “love, connection, and vulnerability, showcasing a more melodic and introspective side of the artist, while maintaining the confidence and wordplay that have cemented his place as one of dancehall’s most consistent and compelling voices.”
Tomlinson told Caribbean Life on Friday, Oct. 10, that the accompanying visual was shot in Portland, Jamaica, directed by Shane Creative, and produced by 4FortyFour Atelier.
“The video captures the lush, romantic scenery of the parish and perfectly complements the song’s sensual message and emotional depth,” she said.
Speaking on the track, Masicka shared, “Keys’ represents a new energy and space for me. It’s about love, but also about trust and giving someone access to your heart. As an artist, I’m showing more emotion, more layers, it’s growth”.
Following the massive success of his Def Jam debut album Generation of Kings, Tomlinson said Masicka continues to evolve his sound and storytelling, bridging dancehall with R&B and contemporary Caribbean fusion.
“‘Keys’ is not just a love song — it’s a statement of maturity and artistic growth, giving fans a glimpse into what’s next for one of Jamaica’s most dynamic lyricists,” Tomlinson said.
She said Masicka continues to make waves. He received a YouTube Award for attracting over 1 million subscribers to his channel and over 580 million YouTube views.
Tomlinson said his most recent independent LP, 438, became “Jamaica’s #1 album of 2022 on Spotify” and “the first project to spend an entire year in the Top 10 on Apple Music Jamaica.”
Tomlinson said Masicka emerged as “one of three Jamaican artists in Spotify Wrapped Jamaica for a Top 10 Album. ”
