Double gold for Carter
Trinidad and Tobago swimmer Dylan Carter recently added two gold medals to his first day bronze in both the men’s 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle on the second and final day of the opening leg of the three-part Mare Nostrum Swim Tour 35th edition of the International de Canet-En-Roussilon, at the Arlette Franco Swimming Centre, Canet, France.
After copping bronze the day before in the men’s 50m freestyle at 22.25 second, Carter returned to take victory in the men’s 50m butterfly at 23.36 second defeating Hungary’s Szebasztian Szabo at 23.40 second and Sweden’s Oskar Holf secured bronze at 23.49 second. He then splashed to winning the men’s 100m freestyle.
The other finishers in the A-final were Netherlands Nyls Korstanje at 23.62, Great Britain’s Jacob Peters at 23.63, France’s Florent Manaudou at 23.69, Poland’s Jakub Majerski at 24.01, and USA’s Michael Andrew in 24.30.
In the morning heats, Carter won seventh of eighth heats in 23.73 seconds and qualified for the third fastest time overall behind Szabo who stopped the clock in 23.50 and Nyls Korstanje who was the second-fastest in 23.64.
The 27-year-old Carter bagged double triumph when he also won the 100m freestyle at 48.94 with Poland’s Kamil Sieradzki in second place at 48.98 and France’s Maxime Grousset in third place at 49.16.
Carter who used the meet as part of his preparations for the FINA World Aquatics Championships in Japan in July clocked 22.15 seconds to make it into the final and upgrade himself to the podium.
