Jamaica Kingsmen join CPL
Jamaica’s franchise in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has officially been reintroduced under a new identity, now called the Jamaica Kingsmen.
The announcement was recently made during a press conference held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, signaling the country’s return to the regional Twenty20 tournament after being absent for the past two years.
Rebranding under the new owner, Kingsmen Sports Enterprise, led the team to adopt the Jamaica Kingsmen identity rather than retaining its old name.
Owner Fawad Sarwar explained that “Kingsmen” was selected as the most fitting name and that it received approval from both CPL organizers and the Jamaican government.
Minister Olivia Grange called this an important milestone for cricket as Jamaica returns to the CPL.
“I’m delighted to say Jamaica is back in the Caribbean Premier League and we are in it to win it,” Grange said.
The Minister emphasized that the league had felt incomplete without the island’s presence.
“For all its success, there was one essential element missing from the CPL, and that has been Jamaica,” she stated.
The CPL season begins in August, with Jamaica hosting four matches at Sabina Park, marking the return of top-level cricket.
The last time Jamaica hosted CPL matches was in 2019.
The previous owner, Kris Persaud, sold the team back to the league due to financial difficulties from limited government support.
