Latest episode in NYC Tourism’s Local Legends Series spotlights Caribbean Heritage
In the latest episode of the “Local Legends” series, Grammy-winning singer songwriter Angela Hunte takes viewers on a personal tour through her neighborhood of Flatbush, Brooklyn.
New York City Tourism + Conventions officially launched the series on Dec. 9 of last year, with Hunte’s episode being released last month.
“The all-new ‘Local Legends’ video series celebrate notable New Yorkers, highlighting for visitors the best of their neighborhoods from their point of view,” said Fred Dixon, president and CEO of NYC Tourism and Conventions.
“Produced in-house by our Emmy Award–winning creative team, we want this series to encourage and inspire millions of travelers to more deeply explore our diverse and vibrant neighborhoods across all five boroughs,” Dixon added.
Some of Hunte’s hit songs include Party Done (featuring Machel Montano), and Mon Bon Ami (French for “my good friend”).
Hunte’s family is from Trinidad and Tobago. In this episode, Hunte’s love for her community shines through as she highlights its cultural treasures and shares her favorite local spots, including Aunts et Uncles, Allan’s Bakery, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
Through Angela’s perspective, viewers are invited to immerse themselves in the vibrant energy and unique charm of Flatbush, experiencing the essence of this culturally rich and beloved Brooklyn neighborhood.
“We hope that Local Legends will educate visitors and locals alike on new enclaves and offerings that they may not have been familiar with in each borough, even if they live here or visited the City before,” said Rondel Holder, senior vice president, Content and Diversity Initiatives.
“By hearing the stories of the residents of each neighborhood and their perspectives on their community, viewers will learn exactly what makes some of the City’s most historic, beloved and well-known neighborhoods worth a visit,” Holder added.
