Matthews honored as Top Women’s Player
Hayley Matthews, the captain of the West Indies Women’s team, won top awards for women’s cricket. The 27-year-old was recognized as the number one Women’s T20I all-rounder globally and the second-best ODI all-rounder and T201 batter.
The awards gala, organized by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA), also honored other players, including fast bowlers Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph.

Meanwhile, Shamar Joseph was named Test Player of the Year for his exceptional performance during the West Indies’ victorious tour of Australia last year. He led the West Indies to their first victory in 27 years.
Alzarri Joseph received the Men’s T20I Player of the Year award, while Shai Hope, the white-ball captain, was honored with the Men’s ODI Player of the Year award.
Various other cricketers were recognized for their outstanding performances in different categories in West Indies cricket awards, including Nicholas Pooran, who was named Regional T20 Player of the Year; Mikyle Louis, who received the award for West Indies Championship Player of the Year; and Justin Greaves, who was honored as the CG United Super50 Cup Player of the Year.
Among the women, Kycia Knight was acknowledged as the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup Player of the Year, and Plaffiana Millington achieved the CWI T20 Blaze Player of the Year award.
Matthews shine in latest ICC rankings
Hayley Matthews continues her sensational form, as she achieves a career-best 770 rating points in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Twenty20 International (T20I) Batting Rankings.
Her outstanding performances have brought her close to the top-ranked Beth Mooney from Australia who is 794 points.
Matthews was awarded Player of the Series for an outstanding performance in the three-match T20I contest as she scored 147 runs and took two wickets. She was recognized for her consistent batting skills, establishing herself as a top all-rounder.
Meanwhile, teammate Chinelle Henry has moved up three places to 86th position in the T20I Batting Rankings. On the bowling rankings, leg-spinner Afy Fletcher rose three spots to 12th after securing five wickets in the series.
In the One-Day International (ODI rankings), off-spinner Karishma Ramharack rises one spot to 25th, highlighting the team’s enhanced bowling depth and talent.
