West Indies Women name squad for T20 series vs. Australia
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the squad for the West Indies Women’s cricket team ahead of their upcoming T20 International series against the Australia women’s national cricket team. The five-match series will take place from March 19–23 at Arnos Vale Cricket Ground in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Caribbean side, “Maroon Warriors,” will enter the series with an unchanged squad. Team management believes continuity will help the players build stronger combinations and improve their overall performance as they prepare for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled to be held later this year in the United Kingdom.
The selected group blends experienced international players with promising young talent, aiming to balance stability with future development.
Captain Hayley Matthews leads the squad after recently guiding the team to victory in the final One Day International against the Sri Lanka women’s national cricket team. Although the West Indies lost that ODI series 2–1 at home, the win in the final match was viewed as a confidence-boosting performance.
Matthews will be supported by several senior players, including veteran all-rounder Stafanie Taylor and powerful all-rounder Deandra Dottin. Wicketkeeper-batter Shemaine Campbelle is expected to earn her 150th T20 International cap during the series.
Alongside the experienced core, the squad also includes two emerging players, Eboni Brathwaite and Jahzara Claxton. Both young cricketers are set to receive their first major international exposure at this level.
Head coach Shane Deitz emphasized that the series will be an important test for the team. Facing the world’s top-ranked side provides the West Indies with a chance to evaluate their strengths and identify areas needing improvement before the World Cup.
Deitz also noted that the two teams last met in October 2023, making the upcoming matches a useful benchmark for measuring the squad’s progress since then.
After the T20 series concludes, both teams will travel to Warner Park in St. Kitts and Nevis, where they will compete in a three-match One Day International series.
Cricket fans will be able to attend all matches free of charge and those unable to attend can follow the games through ESPN’s Disney+ streaming service.
